Welcome to the Sandusky Rotary Club!

If you are new to Rotary, let me share with you our beginnings. The 1st Rotary Club meeting was held in Chicago, Illlinois on February 23, 1905 hosted by Paul P. Harris, a

young lawyer with two  business friends;  a coal merchant, a mining engineer.   From its

early days, Rotarians gathered together in the spirit of friendship, mutual understanding,

each from different professions and businesses, networking so-to-speak with each also

engaged in a different form of service to the public.  Over time, the ideas and ideals of Paul Harris and his friends have been accepted by people of practically all nationalities:   230 countries.  34,000 clubs.  More than 1.2 million members. ?

This year we are celebrating the Centennial of the Rotary Foundation. Established in 1917 with a donation of $26.50, The Rotary Foundation is dedicated to advancing world understanding, goodwill, and peace. Through grants and other resources, Rotary members develop sustainable projects that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, support education, save mothers and children, and grow local economies.

Rotary’s top priority is the global eradication of polio. Rotary launched its polio immunization program, PolioPlus, in 1985 and in 1988 became a leading partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative along with the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and more recently, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

This year's theme is a Serving Humanity and that phrase definitely reflects the Sandusky Rotary Club's recent history of giving back to our community as well to the world. Whether it is sending Shelter Boxes to countries devastated by an earthquake, contributing to the fight to eradicate Polio (now less than 36 cases in the world), providing shoes for a rural village in Belize, or in our own community,  granting scholarships to six graduating seniort annually, sponsoring a children's program at the State Theatre connecting kids with the performing arts, shopping one on one with children for needed clothes in November and December, providing needed Dentures to Seniors on limited incomes, or sharing in the purchase of a Refrigerated Truck for the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio which will deliver fresh food and produce to 64,000 ppl. in Erie, Huron, and Lorain Counties for years to come... Sandusky Rotarians have the art of giving in their DNA and their daily life.

As a member of the Sanduisky Club, we invite you to join us of one or more of our weekly meetings, mingle with members at one of our Rotary After 5 gatherings (the second Wednesday of each month) at different bars / resturants, and to meet our Rotarians... 116 plus business and professional leaders from our area and all industries, government, and educational organizations.

We are active leaders in our businesses and organizations, we often participate in fundraising and philanthropic events and serve in many govenrment and communty roles. We would love for you to join us or at least take a closer look.

If you are looking to Serve Humanity, have some fun, meet and network with area business and professional leaders, and share in the spirit of "Service Above Self', do come to one of our luncheons. We would so appreciate a chance to get to know you better.

Meetings are on Thursdays at  Noon at Castaway Bay Hotel on Cleveland Road.
