Rotary is "Leaders Taking Action". The Object of Rotary is to “encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.” Rotary is a service organization. Since 1910, the Rotary Motto has been “Service Above Self.”
Rotary strives to achieve it’s objective of “Service Above Self” through activities in four primary areas. These are often referred to as the Four Avenues of Service.
This “Avenue” promotes the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service. It involves the activities necessary to make the Club function successfully and achieve its goals.
Perhaps the most impressive and rewarding Club Service Project, Sandusky Rotary sponsors is one that also requires every Club Member to be a part of either on the fundraising side or in its deliver. Called ... Rotary Clothes Kids, this annual Service Project gives 190 to 200 kids a year a shopping experience in November or December of each year. The children in many cases have only enjoyed hand me downs. This is a chance for each child with a Rotarian Shopper to
actually go shopping for clothes, take the time to try the items on, and leave the store with many
needed and a few "just really wanted" clothing items. Boots, coats, sweaters, school uniforms,
logo and themed shirts, pants and jeans, pajamas, underwear, and more. If it is not the shopping
list provided by their parent(s), or caregiver, every attempt is made to find the items and let the
child pick out the color and style. Few Sandusky Club Rotarians miss shopping on at least one
of the five consecutive Saturday Mornings each year. RI even recognized the club with its
prestigious Significant Achievement Award in 2014 for Rotary Clothes Kids.
